Growatt MIN 6000TL-XH - Overview

The Growatt MIN 6000TL-XH is a 6 kW single-phase hybrid inverter from Growatt New Energy, one of the world's largest inverter manufacturers by volume. It combines solar inverter, battery charge controller, and grid management in a single unit at a significantly lower price point than SolarEdge Energy Hub or SMA Sunny Tripower Smart Energy equivalents - making it the entry-level solar-plus-storage choice for budget-conscious residential installations.

Hybrid Architecture

Get this bit wrong and you'll buy the wrong battery. The XH suffix means the battery port is high voltage, 360 to 550 V, and it's designed around Growatt's own ARK XH high-voltage packs stacking from 5.12 kWh to 17.9 kWh. Don't plan on a 48 V Pylontech or BYD B-Box stack here. Those need the low-voltage variant, and buyers do get caught out by it.

Once the right pack is on the DC bus, the inverter manages charging priority: solar charges the battery first, then exports surplus to grid, then draws from battery before grid import. This self-consumption logic is configurable via the Growatt ShinePhone app.

Performance at the Price

At 98.4% peak efficiency, the MIN 6000TL-XH matches mid-tier inverters from Fronius and SMA. Two MPPT inputs, a 550 V maximum DC voltage and a 70 to 550 V tracking window give you string design flexibility that's decent for the money, though each tracker takes just one string. At 10.8 kg it's a one-person lift onto the bracket.

ShinePhone Monitoring

Growatt's ShinePhone app provides real-time production, battery state-of-charge, grid import/export, and historical yield data. The platform supports remote firmware updates and includes a ShineMaster local gateway option for environments where cloud connectivity is restricted.

Trade-offs vs. Premium Brands

Growatt's main trade-offs versus SolarEdge or Fronius are: a shorter established track record for 15+ year reliability data, customer support that varies by distributor, and a monitoring platform with fewer third-party integrations. Warranty is another one to pin down before you order - Growatt's standard cover on the MIN series is 5 years, and the 10-year figure you'll see quoted depends on the region and the distributor. Ask for it in writing. For price-sensitive installations where the inverter is accessible for easy replacement if needed, the MIN 6000TL-XH still delivers strong value.

What the Datasheet Says About the DC Side

I haven't installed this inverter, and nothing on this page comes from a hands-on test. It comes from Growatt's English datasheet for the MIN 2500-6000TL-XH family, read column by column for the 6000 model, and the 6000TL-XH is the top of that range.

Growatt recommends up to 10,000 W of panels at STC, a 1.67 ratio to the AC rating. Maximum DC voltage is 550 V and the start voltage is 100 V. The MPP window runs 70 to 550 V, but full-load tracking only holds between 230 and 500 V. That gap is the number to check against your string design, because a short string on a hot afternoon can sag under it.

There are two trackers with one string each. Each takes 13.5 A, and the short-circuit limit is 16.9 A. Is one string per tracker a problem? On a simple two-plane roof, no. On a roof with three orientations, yes, and you'd want a different inverter.

Battery Side and Backup

The battery port accepts 360 to 550 V and 17 A. The datasheet names two compatible families: ARK XH from 5.12 to 17.9 kWh, and APX 5.0 to 30.0P-S0 from 5 to 30 kWh. Maximum charge power is 6,000 W. Backup output is rated 6,000 VA at 220/230 V, but the datasheet footnotes it: the backup function needs a separate Backup Box accessory. Skip that line item on a quote and you get no outage supply at all.

AC Side and Grid Codes

This datasheet is a European one. Nominal AC is 220/230 V single-phase at 50 or 60 Hz, maximum output current is 27.2 A, THDi is under 3% and the power factor adjusts from 0.8 leading to 0.8 lagging. European efficiency is 97.5% against the 98.4% peak. The compliance list names CE, IEC 62109, VDE-AR-N 4105, EN 50549, G98/G99, CEI 0-21 and UNE 217001 among others. It names no UL 1741 or 240 V US grid code, so don't treat this as a US buying guide.

Protection, Build and What Isn't Published

Protection includes DC reverse polarity, a DC switch, Type II DC surge protection, residual-current and insulation monitoring, and anti-islanding. AFCI is listed as protection, with a note that it must be activated after installation. The housing is IP65 with natural convection cooling, transformerless topology, and a night-time draw under 3 W. Altitude is rated to 4,000 m, and the operating range is -25 to +60 deg C.

What it doesn't give: a derating curve or a noise figure. My view is that a 6 kW hybrid at this price is a fair gamble for a household that can read a datasheet and bargain with a distributor, and a poor one for anyone who expects a nationwide support network.
