AUXSOL ASG-20TL-ZH - Overview
The AUXSOL ASG-20TL-ZH is the 20 kW top model of the ASG-(5-20)TL-ZH three-phase hybrid series from Ningbo AUX Solar Import and Export Co., Ltd., the solar arm of the AUX Group - one of China's larger industrial conglomerates, better known in Europe for HVAC equipment. It targets the commercial rooftop segment: three-phase grid connections, high-voltage battery compatibility, and IP66 weatherproofing packaged in a unit that handles both grid-tied operation and backup power without a separate battery inverter.
One thing to know before you read any further. AUXSOL publishes its datasheets as image-only PDFs, there is no independent test or review coverage of the brand anywhere (no pv-magazine, no Clean Energy Reviews, no EnergySage, no Photon), and no mainstream European distributor - Memodo, Krannich, Segen, Wattuneed - carries it. The company and the product are both real; the usual paper trail you would use to check a spec against someone other than the manufacturer is not there. Several figures below come from AUXSOL alone, and the page says so where that's the case.
It's still a genuine alternative to established European brands at this power class. The catalogue's 97.5% peak efficiency trails SolarEdge and Fronius equivalents by roughly half a percentage point, which is worth calculating against the price difference for any system sized above 30 kWp.
High-Voltage Battery Compatibility
The 180-800 V battery voltage window is one of the ASG-20TL-ZH's strongest selling points. That range overlaps most high-voltage packs on the market: BYD HVM, Pylontech Force H2, Sungrow SBR and others sit inside it. But voltage overlap isn't compatibility. The BMS protocol has to be on AUXSOL's approved list too, and AUXSOL doesn't publish one, so ask for it before you commit a customer to a battery brand. Huawei's LUNA2000 is the obvious example of a pack that's locked to its own inverters regardless of what the voltage table says.
Charge and discharge current tops out at 30 A on each of two channels. The DC headroom looks bigger than it is: the inverter's own 20 kW rating is what caps real battery throughput, not the current the battery port can pass.
Dual MPPT, Four String Inputs
Two independent MPPTs each accept up to two strings, for four total. The 170-900 V tracking window and 600 V rated PV input suit most commercial string configurations - you can run strings of roughly 22 to 28 modules with standard 400 Wp-plus panels without hitting the top of the window or dropping below the tracker's minimum. It's not the most flexible layout in the segment; several competing 20 kW three-phase units offer four independent trackers. For flat commercial rooftops where east-west shading mismatch isn't a factor, two is adequate.
IP66 and -30 degC Operation
IP66 means the unit can be pressure-washed without risk. More relevant for most commercial installations: the -30 degC lower operating temperature limit means it keeps running in northern European winters without cold-temperature derating. A lot of installers in Scandinavia and the Alpine region have been burned by inverters that cut output at -15 degC - this one doesn't.
Backup Performance
The <10 ms grid-to-backup switchover is confirmed on AUXSOL's own series page, and it qualifies the ASG-20TL-ZH for critical load applications where a longer gap causes equipment resets. Cold storage controllers and light manufacturing PLCs are the classic examples: a 20 ms gap is enough to fault them. Whether you actually need that speed depends entirely on your load profile, and most homes and offices don't.
AUXSOL vs Established Brands
This is the honest part. AUXSOL's European track record is short - its anti-islanding certification paperwork for European grid codes dates from early 2023, which is the earliest hard evidence of a European push we could find. The advertised 10-year warranty (2 years standard plus 8 extended) appears in no AUXSOL document we could trace, and distributor listings for the company's ASN line show 5 years. Get the term and the structure in writing before you rely on it, because a warranty is worth nothing without a service network capable of honoring it in your region.
My take: for a residential or small commercial installer with a local AUXSOL distributor and a customer who wants the price, it's a competitive unit and the specs that can be verified hold up. For a commercial project where the client expects 20 years of assured service, or where a lender has to sign off on the equipment, Fronius or SMA still earn their premium and I wouldn't argue otherwise.
Key Advantages
- Wide battery voltage range - 180-800 V overlaps BYD, Pylontech, Sungrow and most other HV packs, subject to BMS protocol approval
- IP66 + -30 degC - genuine all-weather operation including cold-climate sites
- <10 ms backup switchover - manufacturer-confirmed, qualifies for critical load applications in cold storage and light manufacturing
- AUX Group manufacturing scale - large parent company with established supply chains
