Same Money, Half the Battery
Anker sells the Solix C1000X Gen 2 at $799 for 1024Wh. It also sells the C2000 Gen 2 at a $799.99 list price for 2048Wh. Read that twice, because it is the whole story of this product.
TL;DR: 1024Wh of LiFePO4 rated for 4000 cycles to 80%, a 2000W inverter with 2400W of SurgePad headroom, nine ports, and a claimed 49-minute AC recharge. No expansion battery, ever. At list price it costs the same as the C2000 Gen 2, which holds twice as much and does expand.
I want to be careful here, because Anker discounts this line hard and street prices move a lot. The two numbers above are the manufacturer's own list prices, not what you will pay on any given Tuesday. Check both before you buy. But at sticker, the comparison is uncomfortable for the smaller unit.
The X Is Not a Bigger C1000
The naming here is a trap, and I fell into it myself while researching this piece. Search for reviews of the C1000X Gen 2 and most of what comes back is about the C1000 Gen 2. Different product, different price, one character apart.

So what does $300 buy over the plain C1000 Gen 2? SurgePad, the 49-minute recharge, and a darker case. That is it. The cells, the capacity and the continuous rating are the same.
SurgePad is the one that might justify it. A 2400W ceiling against a 2000W continuous rating covers the startup spike on a compressor or a power tool, and that spike is what trips an undersized inverter. If you have a well pump, a workshop saw or an older fridge, that headroom is the difference between the thing running and the thing tripping. If your load list is a laptop, a router and some lights, you are buying paint.
The Ceiling Nobody Mentions First
Here is the specification I would put at the top of the product page if it were mine to write: the C1000X Gen 2 does not accept an expansion battery. Not "an expansion battery is sold separately". There is no expansion path at all.
That single line reframes the purchase. The C2000 Gen 2 reviewed here pairs with the BP2000 and reaches roughly 4kWh. Buy that platform and you can start with essentials cover and grow into multi-day resilience without replacing anything. Buy the X and your upgrade path is a second box, a second inverter you already own, and a second charging routine.
For a van, a balcony setup or a desk that needs to survive a four-hour cut, a fixed 1024Wh is fine and the smaller footprint is a real benefit. Anker says the Gen 2 platform is 14 percent smaller and 11 percent lighter than what came before, and independent listings put the weight around 25 pounds. For a house, a fixed ceiling is a decision you make once and live with.
What I Could Not Verify
The 49-minute recharge is a manufacturer claim, and it needs HyperFlash enabled in the app rather than working by default. I went looking for someone who had timed it with a stopwatch. Backup Power Hub rates the unit 8.7 out of 10 and calls it "best-in-class recharge speed at the 1,024Wh tier", but the review cites Anker's figures rather than its own measurements, and says so.
The same applies to the 1.8-hour solar figure, which assumes 600W of panels under conditions described as optimal. Optimal is doing heavy lifting in that sentence. Panel angle, temperature and cloud will decide your real number, and no spec sheet can answer it for your roof.
The cycle rating is the claim I would trust most. LiFePO4 holding above 80 percent after 4000 full cycles is ordinary for the chemistry now rather than exceptional, and it means the battery will outlast most of what you plug into it. Put that in practical terms: cycle the unit fully every single day and you are still inside the rating after eleven years. Nobody cycles a backup battery daily, so in a house that number stops being a limit and starts being marketing. The parts that will actually fail first are the inverter fan, the ports and the app, none of which carry a cycle count.
There is one more figure the spec sheet does not print, and it decides whether any of this works for you: your own load list. Add up what you genuinely need running during a cut, in watts, and be honest about the fridge. A modern one averages far less than its nameplate but spikes hard on the compressor. That spike is the number SurgePad exists for, and it is also the number most buyers never measure. A cheap plug-in energy monitor costs less than a tank of fuel and will tell you in an afternoon whether you need the X at all, or whether the plain C1000 Gen 2 has covered you the whole time.
Who Should Buy It
Buy the C1000X Gen 2 if you need surge headroom in a package you can carry with one hand, and you are genuinely certain 1024Wh is your ceiling. That is a real use case: a mobile setup, a workshop, a second unit for a room that needs its own supply.
Do not buy it as a house battery. At list price the C2000 Gen 2 gives you twice the storage, more inverter, more surge and a growth path for a dollar less. Anker is not hiding that; both pages are public. It just requires putting two product pages side by side, which is the part the marketing does not do for you.
And if your spikes stay under 2000W? The plain C1000 Gen 2 does the same work for $300 less. Paint is not a feature.
